  1. For some reason, they think racism and rape is off-brand for the GOP. They want that ranting old slob OUT.

  2. You know, I don’t know much about those white shirt, black tie, bike riding Mormon folks. But I am pretty sure that rape, crime, and insurrection is against their faith.

It would be funny as hell if the Orange Turd ball lost Salt lake city.

  3. I mean, the 2012 election included GOP candidate Mitt Romney, one of the most famous Mormon politicians there is. It would make sense that the GOP dominated in those enclaves that year and why there would be a fall over in 2016 vs 2012. What would be more interesting would be to see the data from 2004 and 2008 in those same areas.

That said, if Utah doesn’t go red, I will be absolutely shocked.

  4. The article also mentions Utah, which seems odd, but I hadn’t known about Mormons in Utah being super in counter to the usual Republican ideals.

I would be very curious of the opinion Mormons have of Project 2025, because by the numbers there are a lot of things which are in direct conflict with Utah’s own values.

As a former Mormon, I can say they are masters at double think. So they may not want to, but Utah is turning red on Nov 5.

The fact that anyone “religious” would vote for a greedy, lying rapist like Trump is proof that most religious people have no real morals or principles and nothing they say about anything matters in this world. Anyone religious voting for Trump can take their moral high horse and shove it. God bless!

Californians remember how Mormon money from all the way over in Utah was spent in droves to pass Prop 8. Mormons going against Trump will make a bigger difference than people expect.

I don’t know. Most of the Mormons I know, are racist and support trump. I (raised LDS), have a distinct memory of being told that dark skinned people are descendants of sinners with the bonus fact of, the reason their palms are a lighter tone is to remind them of their (sinning) past. Fuck racist and their bogus religions.

Arizonan here. Can confirm that LDS rejection of Kari Lake was a huge part of why she lost (and will lose again). You already see the Republican Mayor of Mesa, John Giles- a Mormon, speaking openly against Trump. Trump will not win Arizona.

  10. Maybe they finally realized that Project 2025 and Christian nationalism will not play out well for Mormons, with evangelicals in charge. They will not be the one true national Christian sect, and will be more marginalized and persecuted than they might believe they are today.

My father is an Arizona Mormon. Rest assured, he is all in on Trump.

They may be the least favorable Evangelical Christian Group to Trump, but don’t underestimate the ability for someone with a diehard cult mindset to also adopt an adjacent cult mindset.

  12. And yet they’ll still vote for him and his party. Mormons are great at cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy.

Like other Christian groups, they’ll say whatever they need to feel morally superior, but they’re going to vote straight R every time.

It would be smart of them not to. If the Christian fascists get in power, they will be persecuted too as heretics.

As a current member, I didn’t vote for him in 16 or 20. And I’m voting for Harris in 24. The recommendation is and always has been to vote for ‘good and honest’ people and Lil Don is neither.

Trump will win Utah, there’s no doubt about it.

But he will struggle in Arizona. A lot of the AZ GOP is anti-Trump and Mormons standing against him could very well grant a win to Harris. Nevada will also be difficult.

Remember, every Trump 2020 voter that doesn’t vote, even if they don’t vote for Harris, will help Harris win. And in swing states, every vote counts.

  17. Alternate title: Mormons don’t **want** to vote for Trump…but let’s be real they likely will anyway

  18. UselessInsight on

    Yes they do.

The author doesn’t know the LDS community.

Trump hates all the people they hate, they’re just upset he doesn’t do it politely.

They’ll vote for him all the same. They’ll grumble about it and wring their hands and vote straight Republican anyway. Nothing short of the current president/prophet telling them not to will change that, and even if he did, a good number would ignore him.

  19. A lot of Conservatives don’t want tRump but their racism and desire to make poor people suffer more than they already do will lead most of them to still vote for him.

  20. Utahn here. Mormons will 100% vote for trump and he’ll win the state handily, just as every Republican since the Stone Age. We’re one of those ‘family values’ states.

  21. Man, reading the comments and I sure do love being hated for what I believe in. I’m lds and liberal. I will be voting for Harris.

  22. ParticularEconomy623 on

I didn’t have my glasses on and read this as “Morons Don’t Want to Vote For Trump.” That would be an even bigger problem for him than losing the Mormon vote.

  23. JubalHarshaw23 on

Mormons as a group are just as despicable as Evangelicals. The ones who won’t vote for Trump amount to a rounding error compared to the ones who will.
