      Universe scares the shit out of me. At 160,000 light years away this light was created at the same time humans started to leave Africa – it’s taken that long to reach my telescope. Located in the neighboring LMC galaxy the Tarantula nebula is the largest collection of ionized gas in our Local Group of galaxies – if it was in the Milky Way it’d dominate our skies.

      There’s lots of amazing stuff out there that light pollution and our shitty eyes can’t see but luckily, with the power of technology (and a forgiving wife who lets me accumulate gear) we can image it ourselves.

      All taken from my backgarden in ÅŒtautahi over a few clear nights – geek details for those who care:

      * Askar 103 APO lens
      * Asi533mc Pro Camera
      * Optolong L-Ultimate filter
      * Cem26 Mount
      * iGuider OAG tracking
      * 57 x 300s x 4 light frames for the border and 24 hours of data on the bright core itself
      * Stitched together and edited in Pixinsight
