The average daily surface temperature of the Mediterranean Sea reached 28.9 C on 15 August and broke the record of 28.71 C recorded on 24 July 2023.

«What should be emphasized is not so much the achievement of the maximum on a specific day, but rather the observation of a long period of such high temperatures, even without breaking records."

The anomaly, 3 or even 4 C above normal, is particularly strong in mid-August in the Gulf of Venice, in the Ligurian Sea – between Corsica, Nice and Italy -, or between the island of Sicily and the peninsula, with temperatures close to or above 30 C.
