I have decided to do a second trip to Syunik and idk how in this sub some people mention that Goris is bad. Literally one of the most fantastic cities

I was at goris 2 weeks ago and it was very very nice, most of these structures are relatively from 1900’s to 1960’s. Local priest was telling me how almost all the people used to live inside of the caves on the mountains surrounding goris and that the city was built mostly by WW2 German prisoners of war during the 1940’s which caused people to leave their cave homes and move into the city. I actually got the chance to explore one of the cave homes and it was truly a fascinating experience

It’s beautiful because the Soviets and Russian born and educated Tamanyan didn’t destroy the entire city for some “ideal” European boulevards. It’s preserved because it wasn’t razed into the ground like Yerevan was.
