I know they’re a bit controversial and a lot of people don’t like them, but they are very handy for getting around.
I’ve used them abroad, and a lot of the major problems are largely solvable. I don’t even think the main one will be much of an issue here initially, that they block the paths too much especially when parked. There’s only going to be 50 here to start. That said, the solution there is designated parking spaces up to parking bans on certain streets.
Internationally, they also have zones that they can’t be driven into, or are speed restricted in (e.g. parks or shared streets). It is obviously somewhat funny that we can do that with scooters but refuse to do the same with the much more dangerous category of cars…

Always baffles me how much people complain about “them blocking paths” at the mere mention of scooters, yet cars, vans, and trucks are parked illegally on paths and in cycle lanes all across the country on a daily basis, and nobody bats an eyelid.
I don’t agree with scooters blocking footpaths of course, but the cars, vans, trucks etc on the paths are far more dangerous and hindering than scooters, they’re harder to move, and the weight of them damages footpaths (costing tax money to be wasted fixing them), but the scooters at the enemy 🤷♂️

I’ve used these for years all over the world. They are brilliant. Most of new ones like bolt tend to have specific parking areas programmed in so you can’t park just anywhere. They’re actually brilliant as well for less mobile people. I had a broken ankle while in Munich and I was able to get around on them easily.

There’ll be literal piles of them in no time, saw it in London. And geofencing isn’t reliable enough either, I rented one in the Canaries that was convinced I was on a pedestrian only area and kept shutting down. People try them once and give up, they’re so expensive too. The only places they make money are tourist traps

These are bolt scooters which like the ebikes have to be parked in a designated parking spot and you have to take a picture of it when you end the ride. You can’t just abandon it outside Tesco and walk away, well you can if you want to accept the fine.
