    Devastated but far from disappointed.

If this is the start of our future, we are in for some enjoyable years to come.

Only 21. A great effort for her first Olympics.

Fantastic to see Irish runners in Olympic sprint finals!

  3. Very close call there, but just faded at the end. Nothing really she should be ashamed of or think she could’ve done differently. We can all be hugely proud of that, and she’s got immense talent and hope for us all for the future.

  4. Fantastic race from her, and a great time. Improved on each qualifying race time so far. She did us proud!

Her first time at the Olympics and she comes forth
    That is an amazing achievement.

Amazing!! I love watching her run. I hope she is in the relays final. I can’t believe she is only 21!

  7. We’re getting too spoiled. Fourth at your first Olympics is incredible. Hope she remains in form for the relay.

  8. Am gutted. 4th stings so much. Kaczmarek just such a good finisher, same as the Euros again.

Can’t be anything but proud of her though, 1st and 2nd are all timers in the 400m (against the clock) and it was always going to be a battle for the bronze.

So so young still, and still only in her infancy as a 400m specialist too. The strength in those last 50m will come soon and she will genuinely be a world beater.

  9. fantastic young woman. she’ll be at her peak in 4 years time and win that gold!!! so proud of her

She did so well, especially with the quality of that competition; the winner recorded an Olympic record. She’ll go to LA with more experience and training

It’s actually incredible how disappointed she is.

She will take this motivation and go again.

Typically frustrating that someone can just rock back from whereabouts failure ban and take silver though.

    Legend.

Fair play to David Gillick, the RTÉ interviewer at the track side. He’s been brilliant at disguising encouragement and support as an interview. You can tell he’s well regarded by all the runners he talks to.

What an absolute star, and a lovely girl to boot. Great interview with Gillick there. The world is at her feet moving forward!

Absolute legend. Can’t wait to see her in LA. Massive potential for her. Super proud of all the athletes for this Games.

To come fourth with that amount of talent starting a race is exceptional and still young

  16. Aw, she didn’t really have any words during her post race interview with RTE 🙁 She seemed a bit gutted. But she has so much room to improve as an athlete, and still a chance at a medal in the relay

  17. Just amazing for only 21 years old. Almost certain medals in the bag for the future games.

Gutted for her! I knew deep down it was likely a fourth for her but for a few seconds I fully believe she had it. Track is such an unforgiving sport.

Edit: not to say this is a disappointing result by any means! Fourth at your first Olympics is insane, but I know how much it can suck being so close yet so far

That interview. I’m heartbroken for her. Great performance but just ran out of steam. But at 21 she was one of the youngest two running.

Hope she gets the support she deserves and the scumbags won’t be out and about.

    She’ll be back stronger.

  20. Wonderful_Flower_751 on

She came so close and she should be so proud of herself. To come fourth in your very first Olympics at just 21 years old is nothing to be sniffed at.

I know she’s gutted and I’m gutted for her but she will learn from this and come back stronger. I can easily see her on the podium in LA.

The fact she is bitterly disappointed after such a fantastic run says a lot for her future. Ran out of steam in the final straight, if she can fix that she’s a world beater.

  22. 4th in the Olympics is amazing. No guarantee she will get to an Olympic final again so she can be really proud of herself if this is her career high. To run & perform in front of 80,000 spectators is an amazing achievement. Another great Irish performance in these Olympics.

  23. AltruisticComfort460 on

Unreal race. 4th is bittersweet as it’s the best she could do while missing out on the podium. But overall, 21 years of age and 4th in the Olympics. Seems like there’s many brighter days ahead for her. Can’t wait 🙏

  24. Dantons_Head on

She seems like a wonderful human being as well as being a wonderful runner. The interview with David Gillick afterwards had me feeling emotional. Well done to her, she can be very proud.

  25. Incredable, once again another inspiration to young Irish athletes, in fact all young athletes, and all Irish people. Dream big and things will happen, she did the country proud…

  26. Brine-O-Driscoll on

The toughest position to finish as she was so close to a medal, but Adeleke is only 21 and gave her all today.

That strength endurance was what lead to her fading in the last 50m and that’s what will improve most with training in the next 4 years.

  27. Still faster than I’ll ever run it. Fair play to her. Hold your head high girl. You did the country proud.

  28. Great run, incredible to see an Irish person challenging for medals in a sprint final.

She’ll be disappointed but she shouldn’t be. She would have had to improve her PB to challenge the time Kazmarek ran and on a wet track that’s going to be a tall order.

It was always a long shot to medal in the current 400m field (where one of the major favorites for gold didn’t even qualify for the final).

In 4 years, she’ll be a lot stronger. Can’t wait.

Good on her. It took three generational athletes to keep her from a medal. Her time will come. She’s an absolute gem of a human being and a wonderful ambassador for Ireland. Onward to tomorrow. She can help our relay team go 3-4 seconds faster. That could very well be enough to medal. I’ve everything crossed for them.

Just a quick mention of the wonderful David Gillick. Having been there before he knows exactly the tone to take with our athletes in post race interviews. He could see Rhasidat wasn’t ready to speak and filled the air with her achievements and the depth of feeling the country has for her to allow her to compose herself. He’s a great interviewer. Also the great Rob Heffernan, he’s her absolute biggest cheerleader. I’d say he’d fight an army for her, he believes in her so much. I hope she can look back on those moments and see what she gives us. She’s amazing.

  30. Beaten by at least one doper. Great result. Should have went to last Olympics would be further along

  31. Huge achievement. 1 and 2 were locked and while bronze did feel possible it was always a huge ask.

Her PB is 49.07 and third ran 48.98 today(and set an even faster PB last month). The British lady that came 5th ran a new national record for them. Top level athletics is just insanely competitive.
