Heavy rains triggered by Typhoon Gaemi have left at least 30 people dead in China’s inland province of Hunan.
After making landfall in China’s southern province of Fujian on July 25, the typhoon moved north, causing heavy rain and damage in various regions.
China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that the typhoon caused large-scale landslides and flooding in the city of Zixing in Hunan Province, leaving 30 people dead and 35 others missing.
Xinhua also said the typhoon affected about 118,000 people and caused extensive damage to roads, electricity and communications.
Premier Li Qiang visited affected areas on Thursday, instructing full efforts in the search for the missing and urging the rapid restoration of infrastructure.
Last month, torrential rain caused a highway bridge to partially collapse in Shaanxi Province, inland China. At least 15 people have been confirmed dead in the incident.
In Sichuan Province, landslides triggered by heavy rains have also claimed lives.
