Hi lovely people,
Quick question. Is there are government body I can report a local business to for unethical business practices?
I’ve just moved from Australia and I’ve had a google but couldn’t find anything.
For context, I stayed at the following short term rental and paid a 1000 CHF deposit.
They said it was meant to be returned in 7 business days but it’s been 1.5 months and
their office staff keep blaming their accounts team or just not replying to my emails despite my patience.
I am getting to my wits end calling and emailing them just so they can return my money.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Here’s the business – Swiss Star Zürich-Oberstrass
And yes, I should have read the poor reviews first 🙁

Emails and calls don’t cut it in Switzerland. You should write them a registered letter (these things made of paper, stamps and an envelope that your grandparents used back in the day). The registered letter is the secret weapon that many foreigners don’t know enough about in CH.
Write something like if they don’t return your money within two weeks, then you’ll start legal debt collection (“Betreibung” in German).
If they don’t pay in time, you can actually start the “Betreibung” at your ward office; it’s a simple and effective procedure. If it comes to a court case, you’ll need evidence of everything, so keep a bullet-proof paper trail.
Good luck!
