"The interpretation of the data provided by EKI is not true. Based on the most recent Eurostat data, Estonia’s price level last year was 2.1 percent below the EU average," statement Hansson. "In Europe, together with Switzerland, Iceland and Norway, we were in 15th place. From a purely EU point of view, we were in 12th place."
Hansson pointed out that in order to reach the fifth place in Europe, the price level in Estonia would have to grow 37 percent faster than in Luxembourg. To reach fifth place in the EU, it should grow 21 percent faster than the Netherlands.
"With current inflation of 2.5 percent, which is about as fast as the EU average, there is no way to expect this, not even if security taxes are added," said the prime minister’s economic advisor.
