A number of local government websites in Japan became inaccessible on Tuesday. Officials are working to restore access.
One of the affected municipalities is the city of Nabari in Mie Prefecture, central Japan. Staff found that the city’s website could not be accessed on Tuesday morning.
The municipal government says a private firm entrusted with managing the system has encountered a glitch in its server, which hosts the city’s website.
Nabari City says it received information that the website was inaccessible on Monday night as well. An error message appears when attempting to access the website.
The exact cause is not yet known. But the city says there have been no leaks of personal information.
In the western prefecture of Fukuoka, the websites of Itoshima and two other cities also became inaccessible on Tuesday morning.
The cities in Fukuoka say their website managers — all group firms of Fujitsu — are working on the problem and access is gradually being restored.
