OpenAI unveils 'SearchGPT' prototype US tech firm OpenAI has unveiled a prototype of its SearchGPT generative artificial intelligence-powered search engine on Thursday.

The ChatGPT developer says that by using AI and up-to-date information from the web, the tool will quickly respond to users’ questions.

It says the responses will have clear, named attribution and links, so users will know where the information came from.

The search engine will also allow users to pose follow-up questions as if they were talking to a real person.

OpenAI says the tool will have limited distribution for the time being in order to collect feedback for its development.
The company says it plans to integrate the new engine to its ChatGPT system in the future.

In May, rival US tech firm Google rolled out its own AI-powered search engine, “AI Overview,” in the United States.
