Yokozuna Grand Champion Terunofuji won his 10th grand sumo tournament title on Sunday by defeating rank-and-filer Takanosho in a playoff.
Terunofuji had two losses and Takanosho had three losses before the final day of the July Grand Sumo Tournament in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture.
Takanosho beat Onosato, who holds the third-highest rank of Sekiwake, with a frontal push out.
Terunofuji lost to Kotozakura, who holds the second-highest rank of Ozeki, with a pulling over arm throw.
Terunofuji and Takanosho went to a playoff as they both had 12 wins and three losses.
Terunofuji beat Takanosho with a frontal force out to capture his first title since the New Year’s tournament in January.
