The female ‘shaman’ was buried in the 10th century B.C., around the time that Göbekli Tepe (above) was built some 150 miles away in southeast Turkey. Archaeologists believe Göbekli Tepe may have been a complex settlement or temple for hunter-gatherers in a critical transition time before they developed agriculture.
