China has awarded a woman for her bravery after she reportedly died attempting to prevent a knife attack on a bus carrying Japanese schoolchildren.
The Communist Party’s Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, which oversees the police and judiciary, on Friday released a list of 48 “brave warriors,” including Hu Youping.
On June 24, a man armed with a knife attacked a bus in the eastern city of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. The incident left bus attendant Hu dead, and a Japanese mother and her child injured.
Police said Hu tried to stop the attacker and prevented more people from becoming victims.
Authorities said the attack was an “isolated incident,” and have not disclosed the assailant’s motive.
The awards are handed out every three months. The commission says Hu’s deed has been viewed more than 1.3 billion times.
