Democratic lawmakers in the US are frustrated over their belief that Joe Biden will not be able to win the race for president in November. Media outlets say the next few days could see him reaching a “critical” point.
Biden’s campaign woes began last month after a shaky TV debate performance. Two-thirds of Democratic supporters responded to a recent poll by saying he should quit from the race. At least 30 party lawmakers have publically called on him to withdraw.
Several Democratic heavyweights, including former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former President Barack Obama, have apparently said that Biden will not be able to beat former President Donald Trump.
CNN reports that those views are spreading within Biden’s camp and the White House, saying they see the situation as “dark” and “confused.”
Biden released a statement on Friday that he will be “getting back” on the campaign trail next week and that he will defeat Trump “at the ballot box.” He has been self-isolating at his home in Delaware since testing positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday. His doctor said in a letter that his condition has “improved meaningfully.”
