The prime ministers of Japan and Britain have confirmed the security and economic cooperation between the two countries. They have also agreed to work together to deal with global issues.
Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio met with Britain’s new Prime Minister Keir Starmer for about 20 minutes on Thursday on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington. It was their first in-person meeting since Starmer took office.
Kishida and Starmer confirmed they will further strengthen bilateral relations and work together to address the challenges of the international community.
The leaders agreed that the security of the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions are inseparable and that cooperation and collaboration between like-minded countries are vital.
They confirmed they will work together on security, including developing next-generation fighter jets, as well as areas such as AI and the economic field.
Kishida and Starmer also confirmed they will continue to provide strong support to Ukraine and impose strict sanctions against Russia. They also affirmed close cooperation in dealing with the situations in the Middle East and North Korea.
