“According to Balnis, of the Hotels and Restaurants Association, there is no room to cut prices, because the entire sector is just breaking even.

Meanwhile, restaurateurs are pinning their hopes on the new government which may, they hope, be more amenable to their pleas for tax cuts.

“We will join together in the three Baltic states to protest,” says Balnis.”

Business owners in LT must be some of the most narcissistic and delusional people I’ve ever seen. My brother, how can you complain about high taxes and need to rise prices even more when I have to pay f*kin 15 eur for sh*ttiest pizza I’ve ever eaten? Blows my mind.

So they got insane tax cuts during Covid. Some microwave-chefs decided that’s a good opportunity to start their business in the riskiest sphere, and now they’re crying that temporary tax cut is being removed? Vilnius truly does not need 300 pizza places. If your business fails – that’s just the life of your average restaurant owner. Happens all the time, in every country. Live with it.

They should think more about the quality of the food they serve, not protests or taxes. Some places are always full and people gladly pay high prices for great food. Gone are the days of bland low effort dishes and shitty service. We do travel, we can see what is done great and what is not, we know how good service looks like and we value our money, so we choose to spend it where we like to go, eat, drink and chat. If they cannot pivot and adapt, or, to say better, be a modern place people like, it is time to close up. Lower taxes will not solve that.

Salaries: 50-60% lower than western europe.

Final product prieces: =-10% higher than western europe.

“aaaaaah… we barely break even!!!!! where are our tax cuts?????”

Either they are tremendous liars or terrible businessmen. Or both.
