Today, I encountered a distressing situation: a Swiss doctor on a local app provided a response that left me feeling unheard and dismissed. This experience seems emblematic of Switzerland as a whole—a nation renowned for its efficiency and precision, yet often criticized for its perceived lack of warmth and empathy. The encounter underscores the dichotomy of Swiss culture: a place where systems function flawlessly but human connection sometimes feels mechanical. While the doctor’s answer may have been technically correct, it lacked the compassionate touch that one might hope for in a healthcare interaction. It’s a reminder that amidst the country’s remarkable infrastructure and organization, there remains a need for more emotional resonance and understanding in everyday interactions.

OK, but the doctor isn’t there to provide emotional support. You asked a question, and he gave medical advice.

Idk in the US you often get curt responses like this. You asked for migraine headache relief, the doctor told you to get migraine tablets which is the standard response. I don’t really see a problem.

Do you need a hug, OP? Want someone to hold your hand and tell you everything will be alright?

That’s rich, coming from a person that said – and I quote – «[evrywhere German is spoken this is a case! Just a bunch of Nazis](https://www.reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/17mrukp/i_have_been_living_here_in_switzerland_for_2/k7nv7dl/)».
And you acutally said that twice, [here, too](https://www.reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/17a5ail/why_wont_the_svp_openly_say_what_it_is_they/k5fsf8p/).

    And also

    * «[To this day, Switzerland is a shithole!](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/1c0m85i/when_did_women_get_the_right_to_vote_in_europe/kz21zzv/)» (just earlier today)
    * «[Yes, but seeing the Swiss people you need a loot of migrants, because you are so high, you can not even go to the bathroom alone!](https://www.reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/17cfho8/udc_nazi/k5v82ks/
    * «[Not just you, every german speaker, your father Hitler showed the world nothing but who you really are.
[…] all of you as a coulture are hooked on heavy drugs on a daily basis
    […] your brain barely works](https://old.reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/17cfho8/udc_nazi/k5v7n2q/

Maybe you could start with “emotional resonance and understanding in everyday interactions” – by stop being a goddamn cunt.

Wtf is this App? If you want medical advice just go to your family doctor like everyone else.

I don’t know why everyone’s being so intense, OP, other than to sound like they’ve never needed emotions in their life. You’re right that this is a super cold message, and medically quite flimsy too, though not all Swiss doctors are like this of course.

Brethren, do you think this is any different in other countries? Some of Scrubs’ episode are literally dedicated to bedside manner. This has nothing to do with Switzerland.

ps not saying some countries (and CH may be one of them) are worse than others at this, but that doesn’t mean it only exists in those countries.
