Generally positive, quality of articles is good, however quite conservative but I suppose that also depends on the author and topic.

Does Beni Frenkel still get to publish with them or NZZaS? Any publication that gives this absolut clown only one line to write can not be taken seriously imo.

Well written but 90 % FDP / neoliberal bullshit. The articles on local, non- or mildly-political topics are good though.

  4. Have gotten a lot worse in recent years. Clickbaity titles, increasingly divisive content.

  5. I am a “Wechselwähler”, alternating Tagi and NZZ online subscriptions.

They both have their merits, obviously with different political orientations. NZZ has a FDP slant, which is supposed to be “freisinnig”, but in the current form often ends up as “frei von Sinnen”.

It is the “Jordan Peterson” of the Swiss Newspapers. Dumb ultraconservative narratives packed in complicated sentences and words.

German (former expat) perspective: mostly well researched, especially for a conservative outlet. Basically the guys I would read when i’m interested in the logic of my political opponents.
Most other german speaking conservative Media outlets are just pure brainrot and gibberish.

  8. I have a subscription and read a few articles every day. Less for general news, more for background reports, science etc.

I used to be subscribed to their newsletter but I unsubscribed a few years back when, right after they bought up AZ Medien, the chief editor wrote an opinion piece about how conservative media is so oppressed and how all newspapers are linksgrün versifft and only NZZ is reporting on the truth TM. Left such a bad taste in my mouth that I hated them ever since.

  10. Quality has dropped over the years and the political leaning moved into outright bias. It has become a bit in love with itself and its own standing among the Swiss media. On topics such as finance or energy it skews hard into older demographics and borders on pandering.

It‘s very much a „FDP“ newspaper, the sunday version is very good though with more broad reporting.
I like to read it, like that they allow diametrically opposed points of view. Otherwise i like the baselland BZ, very much like having the mix of prime news and bajour in the BS area.
The Basler Zeitung got a lot better since the Blocher/Somm era too actually but isnt back to the quality it was known for decades ago.

I used to like it, knowing that whenever they write opinion pieces on left-wing politics it will be 100% against it, especially when it was about Juso. However, they have lost me when their section on Germany “Der andere Blick” became more and more apologist for literal fascists. I guess, my problem is mainly with their Berlin office, but I really soured on the whole newspaper as a consequence.

  13. I think their articles on the Israel-Palestine war are often horribly biased and written like propaganda.

  14. I was looking for newspapers to read when I moved to Switzerland. I still haven’t found one I like. NZZ just penetrates all their articles with opinions, it’s very hard to find anything in there that doesn’t have a condescending tone towards non-conservative opinions.
