as of May 2024 they covered 52.5% of national electricity demand. In the same month last year it was 42.3%.

84.7% of May demand was met by electricity produced in Italy

It is the highest value ever for this type of source and has recorded these increases: hydro +34.7%, photovoltaic +36.3%, wind +10.5%.

In the first five months of 2024, renewable capacity in operation is increasing by 42%

In May, coal production covered only 1% of total demand. Since the beginning of the year, coal has remained less than 2% of national needs

And I add, because the article doesn’t say it, that Terna only records the data of the energy fed into the grid, i.e. the data of those who produce it themselves (solar panels) and use it for themselves are not recorded!

So an excellent result for the Italian standard, one could say that “Covid has also done good things” 🙂 while it is a subdued result when compared to Italy’s potential. Better than nothing for now.

  1. è una bella notizia. vuol dire che è possibile puntare al 100% rinnovabile in italia? certo che no. ma rimane una buona notizia.
