This is a defensive tower built in the 18th century, when the inhabitants of this land lived in the kingdom of kartli-kakheti and were governed by the Kazak Sultanate (if they were Azeri) or various their Armenian Meliks (if they were Armenians).
Was probably built for defense against the at the time ubiquitous Lezgin attacks.
