Iran and other nations abilities seem to be improving immensely and I wonder if this is in part due to equipment from the US that fell into their hands?

Iran like many other nations is improving specifically because Russia or Ukraine is testing their gear for them in a real battle.
Not because the Americans left old gear on a base.
The equipment was left because it cost more to ship back than it was worth.
Very little, if any, were reverse engineered. If the stuff that was left had tech worth reverse engineering it wouldn’t have been left.
