So I know every criticism of anything swiss will be rejected and contradicted– and I suspect this is the reason why some dysfunctional and unacceptable behavior keep going on…; but fortunately some reasonable people can sometimes comment here so I’m posting it anywhere!
So I was coming back to work; exhausted and the train who was massive btw was shortened( I don’t know why they do thay tbh) and we were packed like sardines in the second class train. While the empty first class was huuuge and filled with place. They used maybe a tenth of the train to store the 2nd class night commuters citizens. Anyways; having had a great day of work; I bought myself some food outside the train and decided to go in the restaurant cabin to sit and not bother other commuters with the smell and noise of me eating( which sounded reasonable at the time) in the second class.
So I go in the restaurant with my food and I get ready to order food when an angry looking turkish worker of the restaurant( a cook and server) of the train came rushing screaming that no food from outside and picknick was forbidden. I was just sitting in the restaurant as I usual do and was planning to order something– but here was this well trained slave, ready to act more swiss than the swiss themselves lashing out to me for no reason. After he shouted and blatantly disrespected me for picknicking( my food was not consumed yet)– which I knew was not allowed hence why I was prepared to order; I calmly asked him to lower the tone and instead do his work: which was to ask me if I wanted something! After that he got angry than his colleague calmed him down; I then ordered my food that I didn’t eat anyways because of his behavior….
Because I wanted to eat the food I took from the restaurant with me; and because I had ordered food from the train restaurant; I proceeded to eat and relax than he came again and told me that even if I ordered food from their restaurant; the rest could not stay on the table or consumed because it is considered picknicking. That his swiss boss would be mad at him if he saw me with some food from outside. I kindly accepted his remarks, mad that I couldn’t eat in peace even if I just ordered shitty 20 chf pancakes that I didn’t eat anyways… just to be at ease( in other countries; they are supposed to respect customers who order something).
I asked him where the rule was that I couldn’t relax with my food in the train restaurant even if I ordered; he showed me a rule saying that picknicking was forbidden but not a rule saying that picknicking was forbidden even if we ordered. Anyways I didn’t argue further and booked online a 1st class ticket and went to eat peacefully there.
He told me that I could eat in the 1st or 2nd class parts but not in the restaurant; which I thought was hilarious! Politeness rules would dictate that eating should be done in the eating area, but nope… nit here. I payed his pancakes that I didn’t eat; and ended up going In the first class and had an enjoyable and peaceful meal.
Before leaving I asked him why he was so rude for no reason; asked him if he was Turkish– which he answered that he was and that he was from Istanbul; told him that I loved Turkije and have many friends from there but that I’m the customer and he is the worker in the restaurant and that it is not how one treats customers. He than proceeded to try to talk and end up being more gentle and nicer but I just had enough and moved to first class… Peace of mind is really something precious!
I get it; it must be hard dealing with all kinds of people but at the end of the day; you’re not here to annoy people even if you hate your job…
