Global leaders to discuss Ukrainian peace plan Global leaders will gather in the Swiss city of Burgenstock on Saturday and Sunday to discuss a peace plan for Ukraine.

The Swiss government announced on Friday that delegates from 100 states and organizations will take part, including the group of emerging nations known collectively as the Global South.

A draft joint statement seen by NHK refers to three of 10 points in the peace plan, which was proposed by Ukraine. They are: the safety of nuclear power plants; food security; and the release of all prisoners and the return of children deported to Russia.

The draft does not mention the withdrawal of Russian forces or the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, apparently out of consideration for participating countries that value friendly ties with Moscow.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said via social media on Thursday that the talks will be a first step toward peace.

Ukraine will likely push for a joint statement to highlight unity and pressure Russia.
