  1. To clarify, I posted the news article because how important climate change is and to remind people that it will absolutely affect them. Cyprus will likely see more heatwaves in the future, and it’s the most vulnerable people who will bear the consequences – namely those without home, or AC, or lacking sufficient income to pay for increased electricity bills.

  2. It’s terrible. Especially for vulnerable people. For young/mid-age getting heat-stroke is more of “be careful”, but for elderly and babies it’s a real clusterf.

  3. There was an EU funded program that subsidized the installation of ac’s or replacement of older ac’s two years ago for people with low incomes.

  4. It should be simple.

Air-condition all public buildings including schools.

Spray water on the asphalt to cool the roads down.

Plant more trees in city centers.

    Invest in Green Roofs.

Expand public transport options to reduce car usage and the urban heat effect.

Use reflective and permeable materials for all the new roads and pavements you’re constantly building.

Install public water features like fountains and ponds to cool the air by evaporation.

It’s not so hard is it, Mr. President. Since you want to be the Dubai of the Mediterranean, these are all things they do in Dubai.

LA, which has very similar climate to Cyprus and 8 million more people, has reduced average temperature in the city by 3-4 degrees recently using these measures. Come on!
