Trump visits Capitol Hill for first time since 2021 Former US President Donald Trump has visited Capitol Hill for the first time since the riot there three years ago.

Trump on Thursday met Republican lawmakers near the Capitol Building. On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters dissatisfied with his defeat in the 2020 presidential election stormed the meeting place of the US Congress.

Trump is slated to become the Republican presidential nominee in the election on November 5. All the seats in the House of Representatives will be up for election. A number of Senate seats will also be contested.

Trump thanked House and Senate Republicans, saying that “we had a tremendous meeting” and “there’s great unity.”

Senior party officials who have been critical of Trump took part in the meetings, indicating that the former president is strengthening his grip on the GOP.

President Joe Biden’s campaign posted a video saying that Trump “lit a fire in this country” on January 6, 2021 and that he is “ready to burn it all down.”
