Singapore airlines announces payouts over severe turbulence Officials at Singapore Airlines have announced a compensation package for passengers hurt last month in severe turbulence. The incident left one person dead.

Officials say they’ve offered 10,000 US dollars to those who sustained minor injuries. Those with serious injuries are invited to discuss payouts according to their circumstances.

Those who require long-term care will be offered an advance payment of 25,000 US dollars.

The officials say all passengers on the flight can have their fares refunded in full.

The incident occurred on May 21 on a Boeing 777. Flight SQ321 was travelling from London to Singapore, but made an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport near Bangkok after being hit by sudden and extreme turbulence.

There were 229 people onboard. A 73-year-old British man died from a suspected heart attack.

Singaporean transport authorities are conducting an investigation. Early findings suggest people who did not have their seatbelts fastened became airborne.
