SS:
In an Al-Arabiya interview, summarized on the Lebanese Ministry of Information website, Christian Kataeb Party Leader Samy Gemayel (nephew of former president Bashir, assassinated in 1982), calls for Iran to refrain from proxy warfare with Israel via Hezbollah, and for
>the international community to recognize that Lebanon is being held captive.
claiming that
>”We are engaged in peaceful political resistance against Hezbollah and Iran’s control over our country. The Lebanese people have no ability to change the current situation in southern Lebanon on their own.
He also called for
>the support of our Arab brothers and the international community to protect Lebanon from this disaster and to help us free ourselves from Iranian domination through Hezbollah.
Clearly this position is totally at odds with Hezbollah’s… It’s remarkable to see such divisive comments echoed on a Lebanes government website; I wonder whether this implies (some level of) governmental endorsement?
