This morning, I opened my mailbox to find the following: yesterday’s Gemeinde magazine, and another piece of paper crumbled up, and next to it was an old used lighter.

Is this just local kids trying to be badass, or a common threat towards foreigners here? We live in an upscale neighborhood in Kanton Luzern and are well integrated.

Our neighbours are all super friendly (mainly old people), even helping us learn Swiss German and we frequently exchange traditional baked goods. Never had any issues with natives here.

Has this happened to anyone else? Should we take this to the police/Gemeinde?

I would treat it as a threat, and report it to the police. Might not be targeted at you personally. Hopefully you did not touch the lighter.

Unfortunately, their are mentally ill people committing arson, endangering the life of people and animals. There is a series of suspected arsons cases around Lucerne: [https://www.pilatustoday.ch/zentralschweiz/luzern/die-zentralschweiz-brennt-ist-ein-feuerteufel-unterwegs-156611418](https://www.pilatustoday.ch/zentralschweiz/luzern/die-zentralschweiz-brennt-ist-ein-feuerteufel-unterwegs-156611418)

I have crumpled pamphlets quite often in my mailbox. The lighter could very well hust be a promotional item. Just ask your neighbors if they also got one, or check the ad on the lighter for what it is.

Or maybe some bored teens wanted to light something on fire, were getting caught and hid the contraband in your mailbox.

I dont think its a cryptic threat against you.

I dont see how this is a threat, especially how do you know it’s against “foreigners”?

  4. The mail delivery guy dropped it accidentally, and tried to recover it with the crumpled up paper functioning like a extension of his fingers. When he dropped that as well he decided to flee the scene.
