The office is designed for more than 450 people, it will employ highly qualified IT specialists – developers, designers, managers who develop Yandex technologies for Armenia and other markets.
“Yandex has been operating in Armenia for more than 8 years. Armenia is among the top 3 of our international presence markets in terms of the number of launched services. A large office will help create new jobs and develop the company’s services in the Armenian market,” Aram Mkhitaryan, head of Yandex Armenia.
In the office building located on Moskovyan Street 35, Yandex Hall appeared – a public space created to support the IT community of Armenia. Meetings there will be held in five areas: Backend, ML, Product and Project Management, People Management, NewBiz, they will be supervised by the YerevaNN, Armenian Code Academy, Product People and LIT Academy communities.
In addition, Yandex Armenia announces the allocation of scholarships worth 17 million drams for research work in the field of machine learning. They will go to support the Center for Intelligent Computing, organized by YerevaNN and Yerevan State University.
Since 2017, Yandex Armenia has been investing in initiatives aimed at developing the Armenian IT market. Among the company’s educational projects are Programming Schools, operating with the support of the EIF Foundation in Vanadzor and Gyumri since 2017; joint programs with Armenian Code Academy; courses in data science at RAU and an intensive course in generative modeling at Yerevan State University.
Yea this is good but I don’t want Yandex to have too much power over us. They already possess so much data about us.

I’m glad that Armenia gets into tech even more. Lots of IT companies are opening branches there.
People (as you can see in the comments here) might shit on Yandex “cuz Russia le bad”, but it is, basically, Google. Literally same shit.
Yandex makes quite good stuff and, at least, works really well in Armenia while Google does not. Sure, Yandex does some shady ass crap as any other IT giant — the same as Google. Sad, but true. Good apps and UX/UI, at least.

Just a reminder that Yandex do have great ties with the Russian government since 2010-ish as it’s about the time when they start to filter their search results from any opposition content and downgrade opposition blogs ratings that were quite influential back in the days. With time it got much worse. It may be a company that was started and developed by great people, but as many other IT businesses in Russia it was forcefully taken under the control of the state and you better have nothing to do with the company like that, if you are respecting your rights and freedoms.
