Hello everyone! Any suggestions on like Apps/programs or books where i can learn to speak your language? (Doulingo doesnt offer Macedonian) I want to surprise my BF by flying there and surprising him at work 😆.

To be able to do that i need to know how to read and talk to the bus station in skopje. He held on to my bus card when i left a couple of weeks ago so I need to know how to buy one by myself. He lives in a village so its like 4 hours by bus one way.

Any suggestions will be a big help.
I tried learning bulgarian but its not the same? But close i guess.

If there’s no learning material available, i just need instructions how to commute to Kochani 😅 if I ask him, he will get the hint.

Thank you!!!

  1. If you are going to Skopje then just go to the bus station and I’m pretty sure you can just ask in english for a ticket to Kochani. For bus rides to other towns you don’t need a card. The card is used for the buses in Skopje.

Kochani is a town not a village.

While macedonian and bulgarian have similarities they are not the same.

    Hey, welcome.

The tickets on the picture are only valid for the buses within Skopje, not between cities in Macedonia.

The bus station is within the Transport Station (Транспортен Центар). Once you enter (there are a few entrances), you will see a lobby, you can ask for a bus ticket from any of the people working behind the windows.

The operators at the bus station should be able to understand what you wish to do in English.

If they don’t, google translate does a great job at translating.

But here are some phrases that may come in handy:

“Како да стигнам до Кочани„ – How do I get to Kochani

“Колку пари„ – How much money

“Кога е следниот автобус„ – When is the next bus

“Каде да купам автобуска карта„ – Where can I get a bus ticket

“Каде да чекам автобус„ – Where do I wait for the bus

“Каде да се симнам„ – Where should I drop out (as in get off the bus)

    Good luck,

Hope you have a wonderful stay

  3. I use Memrise (phone app, also accessible via website on PC). It covers the basics, and it’s pretty interactive. It has short of like 1000 Macedonian words, but it probably won’t teach you enough to get along with daily life in Macedonia. Also used [50languages.com](http://50languages.com) (they also have an app), which is less interactive and more just vocabulary and sentences. This one has quite a large range of words and sentences and probably gets you further, but bit more boring imo.

  4. Damn that bus card is stylish as fuck. The ones in Australia are plain and boring in comparison.

Hello! There are many sources where you can learn Macedonian from! Try checking the local university sites such as UKIM as they have pdf versions of the Macedonian for foreigners books. On amazon and other sites you can also find them. One of them is “Makedonski so Maka” or “Macedonian for Foreigners/Beginners”

  6. Since the others are answered, buses to Kochani are pretty much always the same:

11:00 Direct (this one isnt available on Sundays and Holidays, maybe Saturdays too) – Hour and a half

    12.30 Thru Kumanovo – Sv. Nikole – Shtip – Around 3 hours

    16.30 Thru Veles – Shtip – Around 2 and a half hours

18.30 Thru Veles – Shtip – the same

One way ticket for these is 510 denars (bit less than 9 Euro)

Two way is 690 denars (bit more than 11 Euro)

As for commuting in the area of Kochani there are busses, most are there mostly for schoolchildren, but tickets are available, I doubt the tellers will be able to converse in English tho, you’ll have to hope for someone around you to know English, if Im in my hometown when you arrive I’ll gladly help, but that’s a big if since exams are coming up lol.

Cabs are also available tho still same issue, they wont be too expensive for foreign standards and I doubt someone will take advantage of that since it’s not a touristy place (only go for the white and yellow ones tho, the others aren’t registered)

Macedonian numbers are available thru Lyca at the Skopje Bus Station and Kochani doesn’t offer a lot in the way of free wifi except for the gambling spots.

    Lmk if I missed something.

Learning Macedonian is extremely hard if you do not have a Slavic background and know a Slavic language. You can get by with basic English here in Macedonia. Plus, the majority of teenagers here know English very well, so you can just ask them to help you, if you have someone near by.
