On the initiative of members of the New Unity and National Alliance parties, draft decisions were prepared to send two For Stability! MPs – Viktors Pučka and Jefimijs Klementjevs – for Latvian language testing.

In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Saeima, both drafts were referred to the Mandates Committee, which assessed them in a closed session to which both MPs and representatives of the State Language Centre were invited.

The Committee decided to send only Pučka for the national language test.

On Thursday, October 31, the Saeima rejected by 33 votes to 28, with 22 abstentions, the proposal to send Jefimijs Klementjevs for a state language test.

Sending Pučka for a state language test was supported by 67 MEPs, with 12 against and 2 abstentions.

Klementjevs and Pučka have served in the current Parliament for almost two years. Klementjevs was administratively fined by the State Language Centre for insufficient knowledge of the language, while Pučka appealed against the State Language Centrt’s administrative fine and applied to take the state language test on October 22, but failed it and will still receive an administrative fine.
