The Caravan of Humanity, a non-profit group founded in Austria, wrapped up their uplifting mission in Cyprus on October 28, leaving behind a trail of laughter and goodwill. Known for collecting and distributing goods and financial donations to displaced and marginalized populations, the Caravan aims to spread joy as well as provide relief. This time, they collaborated with local organizations like Caritas Cyprus, the Cyprus Refugee Council, and Refugee Support Europe/Dignity Center to make their two-week visit meaningful.
Since their arrival on October 13, the Caravan has been busy engaging with communities across the island, entertaining and uplifting families in need. They performed for children at the Caritas Migrant Center near Paphos Gate, where the clowns and acrobats delighted audiences with their lively acts. They also visited the Kofinou camp, providing laughter and joy to asylum seekers who are often facing challenging circumstances.
The group didn’t stop there. They made their way to Pournara camp, where they hosted activities for children, giving them a chance to forget their worries and simply enjoy being kids for a while. Additionally, they participated in a lively festival in Limassol, showcasing their talents and connecting with the local community.
Their efforts also included stops at the Nicosia Municipality Polydynamo After School program, where they engaged with young attendees through entertaining shows that sparked joy and laughter. The German Ambassador to Cyprus, Anke Schlimm, attended one of these performances, emphasizing the importance of this initiative in fostering international solidarity and support for marginalized communities.
The Caravan’s visit highlighted the power of community and international collaboration, reminding everyone of the importance of helping those in need. Throughout their stay, they not only performed but also organized various creative activities, including painting workshops for children led by an artist accompanying the group.
Pascal Violo, the Caravan’s founder and a travel photographer, was part of this mission to ensure the team brought both joy and artistic engagement to the local youth. Together, they distributed donations, including essential supplies, to local organizations such as Learning Refuge in Paphos, Agapi in Limassol, and Aid4All in Larnaca.
By the end of their time in Cyprus, the Caravan of Humanity had made a significant impact on the communities they visited, leaving behind not just smiles but also a reminder of the importance of solidarity across borders. Their mission was not just about laughter; it was a heartfelt reminder of our shared humanity and the difference we can make together.
