MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Shelby County Health Department issued an air quality warning for Tuesday.
The Special Air Quality Statement is about high particle pollution levels (PM 2.5) caused by smoke over the lower Mississippi Valley, including the Memphis metropolitan area, according to a press release.
Fires over the Gulf Coast states are the main source of the smoke.
Satellite images show the smoke, which has been carried into the area by moderate southerly winds.
These concentration levels are expected to remain high today and likely through Wednesday, according to SCHD.
SCHD says if any changes occur or conditions worsen before the Daily Air Quality Forecast is issued this afternoon, they will issue an earlier update as necessary.
