GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) – A months-long push for a proposed regional business park in Georgetown has come screeching to a halt as their city council voted down an agreement to take part in the project Monday night.

The Georgetown City Council struck down the proposal in a 6-2 vote Monday night.

It was the third time in two weeks, the city council met to discuss the proposed Triple Crown Regional Business Park.

The park was planned to be off of McClelland Circle in Georgetown.

A spokesperson for the regional group confirmed to WKYT that there is no way forward for this project:

The regional group worked for over a year to collaborate and bring in over $6M in state matching funds and more in federal dollars for a regional business park that would have created 1400 direct jobs and generated substantial tax revenue.  Although there ultimately was not enough support from the respective legislative bodies to move the project forward, the partners want to express sincere gratitude to the many community members, local officials, and business leaders who got behind the initiative.”

The spokesperson says these governments will forego a lot of state and federal support by turning the park down, but the support was simply not there.
