Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited Tbilisi on Monday as Georgian lawmakers disputed the results of the parliamentary election.
Orbán, who is ideologically close to the governing Georgian Dream party, congratulated the party after Saturday’s vote even before reliable results were available.
Georgian Dream, which supports closer relations with Russia, has been officially declared the winner, despite objections by Georgian lawmakers and international observers, who noted numerous irregularities in the electoral process.
The opposition has refused to recognize the result and called for a demonstration on Monday evening, demanding a re-run of the election.
Orbán is to be officially received by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday, the Georgian government said.
