UN Security Council to meet over Israel's strikes on Iran The United Nations Security Council is to meet on Monday following Israel’s attack on Iran.

The UN Mission of Switzerland, which holds the council’s rotating presidency this month, says the emergency session was requested by Iran, and supported by council members including Russia and China.

In a letter asking for the meeting, the Iranian mission to the UN condemned the strikes by Israel on Saturday, saying they violate the foundational principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon responded sharply, saying this was “another attempt by Iran to harm us, this time in the diplomatic arena.”

He added, “We will stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself.”
