SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – As we approach the final stretch of breast cancer awareness month, Avera teamed up with a local gym to promote fitness in the fight against the disease.

Fit Body Boot Camp in Sioux Falls offered two free workout classes, while also providing participants with valuable breast health education.

“People are supposed to have 150-300 minutes of physical exercise per week, and that really lowers your risk of developing breast cancer. What better way than to partner with a gym in town to promote working out and reducing your risk of breast cancer during this month,” Tara Kocourek said, the Avera Director of Breast Health.

The event started last year and is called Self-care Saturday.

“We had never done a self-care Saturday or a presentation style start to a workout, and then jumped into a workout, but I’ll tell you what this event has been amazing and I’m very excited to continue doing more events like this,“ CJ Wehrkamp

The best way to stop breast cancer is to catch it early. This event encourages those at risk to do their year screening mammograms.
