Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company says it aims to deepen ties with Japanese chip developers by strengthening and improving access to its software platform for designing chips.
The world’s largest contract chipmaker apparently believes the move will also be to its benefit through gaining access to Japanese technologies.
About 70 Japanese firms and universities that develop semiconductor software attended a TSMC event in Tokyo on Friday. The Taiwanese firm explained the structure of its platform.
It said companies entrusting chip manufacturing to TSMC will be able to use cutting-edge technologies through the program.
Japanese firms hope to increase orders by using the platform.
Matsuo Kazutoshi, president and CEO of chip software developer Jedat, said “My company now puts focus on Japan and outsources production overseas. I hope our platform will grow and become a global leader.”
The TSMC initiative comes as competition heats up in the development and manufacturing of cutting-edge chips for artificial intelligence and smartphones.
