It was only just last month when not only did Estonia confirm their participation, but also opened their call for songs for the upcoming Eesti Laul. Despite a somewhat of a late start for the Baltic nation, the country is already headed with full force towards Basel. Preparation is well underway and soon we’ll hear more details about the 2025 national final.
175 submission received for Eesti Laul 2025
Just to quickly recap what is going on in Estonia, the Estonian broadcaster (ERR) has decided that Eesti Laul 2025 will be a one night show only. This is the first time since 2010, that only a final of the Estonian national final will take place. The final is already set to take place on the 15 of February 2025.
Despite there might still be about 4 months until then, there are still various keydates in the Estonian program until then. ERR has just recently confirmed, that a total of 175 songs has been received for the upcoming national final, and only 16 of them, will take part in the national final.
Naturally, it might come as a disappointment or as a loss of interest, seeing how there will only be one show, but on the contrary, the Estonian broadcaster see it as a great interest in the competition, by receiving entries from abroad. Considering the final will consist of 16 songs, the 2025 national final will be the first time a final feature that many songs in one show.
ERR’s head of experience programs, Karmel Killandi, has even said:
- “We welcome all artists to the competition, this year’s Eesti Laul is more international than ever.“
- “I am especially happy that among the contestants there are talented young performers, as well as famous artists. We still hope, that this competition lays the foundation for a stage career at home or flies to the top in the world. It is certain that the music scene is richer by 175 songs, and that’s why we do this competition!“
With that said, a jury of 35 members will now evaluate all the submitted entries, and pick 15 that will take part in the upcoming national final. The lucky 15 selected acts will already be revealed in early November, with the songs being revealed on the 6th of December 2024.
Afterwards, the public will then be given the chance to even select one song which didn’t get selected, to join the rest of the line-up. The last and 16th contestant will then be revealed in January 2025.
2024 saw Estonia being represented by 5MIINUST x Puuluup with their song (nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi. The song qualified for the grand final in Malmö, where it overall finished 20th place.
