BRATTLEBORO — Well into the third year of fighting on the battlefields of Eastern Europe, the Russia-Ukraine war remains locked in an apparent stalemate – what now? The Windham World Affairs Council (WWAC) will host foreign policy expert Robert Beck on Wednesday, Oct. 30, to review the current state of the conflict, the likely endgame scenarios, and what it all means for the United States.
The talk will take place at 6:30 pm (doors open at 6 p.m.) at 118 Elliot Street. A $10 donation is suggested, RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ukrainerussia-war-third-year-and-counting-tickets-943636822137.
Beck served for 30 years overseas with the U.S. government in embassies in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. He writes frequently on foreign affairs for local papers, has spoken often across the region about international relations, and teaches foreign policy classes at Keene State College’s Cheshire Academy for Lifelong Learning (CALL) and Rivier College’s Rivier Institute for Senior Education (RISE). Beck lives in Peterborough, New Hampshire, with his wife of 39 years, Meg.
WWAC’s next event will feature Mark Sidel, professor of Law and Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, for a talk on civil society in China in the Xi Jinping era on Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m., at Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro.
WWAC also presents a reading/discussion group on the Modern Middle East to explore the roots and realities of the current crisis beginning Sunday, Oct. 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. led by WWAC Board member Clare Morgana Gillis PhD running for six weeks at 118 Elliot – contact her at claremorgana@gmail.com for more information.
WWAC is part of the national World Affairs Councils of America and relies entirely on the support from membership dues and donations by those who attend events.
