RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – State Board of Elections Executive Director Karen Brinson Bell gave remarks this morning regarding the early voting period in our state.
The countdown is on as election day is only 11 days away. As the race to the white house continues between Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, North Carolina is in the 9th day of early voting.
According to Brinson Bell, as of 8am this morning more than 2.3 million voters have cast ballots in this election, however we still have more to go.
“Millions of registered North Carolinians have not yet made their voices heard in 2024. We encourage all voters to make a plan to cast their ballot between now and election day, November 5th,” Brinson Bell said.
Brinson Bell wants to remind voters if they are not registered to vote, they still have time, despite the past deadline.
“If they are not registered to vote, they can register and vote at the same time at any early voting site through November 2nd,” Brinson Bell said.
Officials remind North Carolinians that registration is not allowed on election day.
Brinson- Bell made a direct plea to residents of 25 counties in the Western part of the state who may not be living in their home county that there is still a way to vote.
“If you are not able to vote in your home county, during the early voting period or on election day, you must act quickly. You should request an absentee by mail ballot to be delivered to whereever you are currently staying temporarily,” Brinson Bell said.
You can do that by clicking here and filling out the absentee request form. Once you get your ballot, you can mail it back to your county board of elections, only if it reaches the office by 7:30pm on election night.
If you don’t think your ballot will make it by the deadline, you can drop off your ballot at any of the early voting sites or any county board of elections office in North Carolina.
This is only for voters affected in the Western part of the state.
Brinson Bell also commented on the tremendous turnout from counties affected in the Western part of the state. Which are seeing higher voter turnout numbers than in 2020.
State Board of Election officials remain confident in a smooth election process.
