Lockheed Martin has announced the successful maiden flight of the first F-16 Block 70 for Bulgaria, on October 22 in Greenville, South Carolina.

The flight marks the start of deliveries of 16 aircraft for Bulgaria, making it the second European country to receive this advanced version of the F-16. Bulgaria has signed agreements in 2019 for eight F-16s, followed by a second in 2022 for a further eight aircraft.

The F-16 Block 70, with modernized capabilities, will strengthen Bulgarian air defense and facilitate cooperation with NATO allies.

Currently, 27 countries operate the F-16, six of which have chosen the Block 70/72 version for their fleets.
