Severe Tropical Storm Trami leaves 46 people dead, 20 missing in Philippines Officials in the Philippines say Severe Tropical Storm Trami has caused mudslides and floods, leaving 46 people dead and 20 missing, mainly on Luzon Island.

Trami passed over northern Luzon on Thursday and brought heavy rain to wide regions.

The officials also say more than 1,400 houses were damaged.

Much of the damage occurred in Batangas Province in southern Luzon. Residents and first responders searched for missing people on Friday in areas where houses were hit.

One person says he panicked when his child went missing. He says everything was buried in mud and all the houses were destroyed, adding that people are searching for missing family members.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Kong-rey has developed near the Mariana Islands in the Pacific.

Philippine officials are on high alert, as the storm could move toward their country.
