ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — As many people are having to put aside their hardships and losses to assist other storm victims, Advent Health has brought in mental health counselors to help the doctors and nurses there who are dealing with Helene’s trauma.
In the month since Helene, healthcare workers have spent their time helping community members who needed medical care after the storm.

“When you have people here cleaning up a hospital room or cooking the food even out in the community — anticipatory grief,” said Abby Wirick.
Advent Health said its staff members have expressed gratitude for these mental health resources provided.
“We’re here supporting our own patients and taking care of them, and helping them process their own problems — but you can’t pour from an empty cup,” said Vicki Rogers, an ICU/PCU nurse manager. “You have to be able to process our own grief and issues from this disaster, so we want to be able to give that support to our staff and help them.”
