CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — With only 12 days left until the election, getting out to vote can sometimes fall through the wayside. something comes up, you have to work and you can’t make it out on election day.
West Virginia allows it’s voters to get out early in person and vote – starting 13 days before the election. and Kanawha County alone saw thousands heading out to one of the nine polling places.
“I felt that it was really important to get out and i wanted to make sure my vote was out there,” said Mimi Imbrogno
We spoke to several people at the Kanawha voter registration office and asked what made them decide to come out and vote early and heard several different answers.
“I’m anticipating some surgery so I wanted to make sure I got my vote in,” said Laura Woolwine.
“I’ll be out of town election day,” said Seth Buchholz.
“Honestly so i can delete all those doggone messages I get all the time,” said Imbrogno.
According to Kanawha County Clerk Vera McCormick, just under 4,000 people in the county came out for the first day of early voting; that’s about three percent of the county’s registered voters, and most people said they had a good experience despite the large crowds.
“The only problem was my signature didn’t match because I scribbled it on the screen,” said James Kelley.
“It ran very smoothly, people in there were very polite, very professional, and I appreciate their services in the day,” said Bryan Terrell
“It went great,” said Sharon Pickens.
You have until November 2 to get your early ballot in. After that – you will have to wait for election day.
