Tokyo Customs accuses man of attempting to import fake Ohtani uniforms Tokyo Customs has filed a complaint with prosecutors against a man in western Japan on suspicion of trying to import counterfeit copies of Major League Baseball superstar Ohtani Shohei’s Dodgers uniform.

Customs officials say 44-year-old company employee Tamura Takuya of Shimane Prefecture is suspected of violating the customs law.

They say Tamura in January attempted to import 34 counterfeit Ohtani uniforms with Nike logos from China.

They say customs workers suspected the products were counterfeit because of the way Ohtani’s name was sewn on and the shoddy packaging.

Tamura reportedly said he planned to sell them to help pay for his living expenses. He is suspected of making about 3 million yen, or nearly 20,000 dollars, so far by selling counterfeit products online.

Earlier this month, the Fukushima prefectural police arrested him on suspicion of selling counterfeit clothing. Police reportedly confiscated 360 fake Dodgers hoodies and uniforms from his home.

Tokyo Customs filed its complaint with the Fukushima District Public Prosecutors Office.
