NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) – Though the third day of early voting has wrapped up, it is only the beginning. Early voting lasts through November 1 and election day is November 5. In Deep East Texas, Nacogdoches County and Angelina County are seeing a close to normal turnout.

“Here at the courthouse it’s right in line with those six plus the courthouse from 2020. So, the numbers are right where they should be,” Vicki Wood, the election administrator for Nacogdoches County said.

Last year, Nacogdoches County had six early voting locations, and the early period was extended for almost three weeks.

Compared to the first two days of the 2020 general election, Nacogdoches County saw a decrease of 961 voters, while Angelina County saw an increase of 1,277 voters according to results from the early voting turnout on the Secretary of State website.

“It’s definitely more people in the presidential, I think more people think their vote counts and is more important during the presidential, when really it is important in every election,” Wood said.

Historically presidential elections have always had a greater turnout with 2020 being one of the highest.

“People get excited and want to get out to vote. We also see a lot more younger people in these elections,” Wood said.

Wood said so far in Nacogdoches County voting has been running smoothly. They have managed to keep wait times low. She does want to remind people about the rule of no cell phones. No recording devices can be within 100 feet of the voting area, including cellphones. She just asks that people turn them off if they do bring them in.
