Death toll rises to 9 in Japan's Ishikawa following heavy rain Emergency officials say the death toll from record rainfall in Japan’s Ishikawa Prefecture has risen to nine.

Torrential rain hit the Noto region in the prefecture over the weekend. On Wednesday morning, rescuers in the city of Wajima found the body of another person. They say the deceased appeared to be a woman.

Prefectural officials say two people are missing, and six people are unaccounted for.

Meanwhile, 46 communities remain isolated in Wajima and Suzu cities and Noto Town due to flooding and landslides.

Authorities have not been able to fully grasp the situation, but at least 367 people are stranded.

The isolated communities in Wajima include a temporary housing complex for survivors of the New Year’s Day earthquake that devastated the Noto region.

Some residents of the complex are requesting a group evacuation outside the city. The prefectural government has started making arrangements for their relocation.
