US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin makes show of support in Ukraine US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin paid a visit to Kyiv on Monday to reassure Ukrainians about American support. He met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and announced an additional aid package worth 400 million dollars.

Austin and Zelenskyy met two weeks before Americans will head to the polls. Austin outlined an arms package that includes ammunition, armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons.

Zelenskyy reminded Austin of his vision to end the fighting against Russian troops, what he calls his “victory plan.” He asked again for looser restrictions on long-range weapons, so Ukrainian forces can hit targets deep inside Russia.

Austin pushed back in a speech at a military academy. “There is no silver bullet,” he said. “No single capability will turn the tide. No one system will end Putin’s assault.” He told Ukrainians that what matters is the combined effect of their military capabilities.
